If you are an international student travelling to Canada with your spouse or partner, they may be qualified for an open work permit, which will help them to work full-time on or off campus while you are enrolled in the study program. It often lasts for the same amount of time as your study allows if your spouse or partner obtains an open work visa. Your spouse or law partner will need to complete a medical examination.
An open work permit may be available to your spouse or common-law partner if you:
• Possess a current study permit
• Are qualified for a work permit following graduation (PGWP) and
• Are enrolled full-time in one of the following schools:
o A Quebec-based public post-secondary institution in Quebec, such as a university or college
o A Quebec-based private college-level institution
o A private school in Canada that is authorized by provincial legislation to confer degrees (for example, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree)
