Open Work Permits are the ones that are not job-specific. You won’t require the following when you apply for the Work Permit:
You qualify for the Open Work Permit when you:
• Are a graduate of a designated educational institution who studied abroad and qualifies for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program
• Are a student and not able to pay for your education (destitute student)
• Have a work permit related to your company and are experiencing or in danger of experiencing abuse because of your employment in Canada
• Applied for Canadian permanent residency
• Are a dependent family member of a permanent resident applicant
• Are the spouse or common-law partner of a foreign student or skilled worker
• Are a participant in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program and the applicant’s spouse or common-law partner
• Are a refugee, refugee claimant, protected individual, or a member of their family
• Possess a temporary resident permit and are subject to an illegitimate removal order
• Are a young employee taking part in special programs
Open Work Permits are advantageous in the way that they facilitate unrestricted movement, whether it be between offices, employers, professions, or locales in Canada. Some conditions related to acquiring a work permit in Canada are not applicable to open work permits.
